Gary Allan Rediscovering the Beauty of Vinyl Records with His New Turntable

Image Courtesy MCA NashvilleGary Allan's latest single, "Hangover Tonight," was inspired by the classic sounds of Motown, so it's clear Gary has a love for vintage music. He's been indulging that passion recently with the purchase of a new record player.

Gary tells ABC Radio, "I'm surprised it took me so long to buy another turntable. So, I've been, just all over albums."

Gary had a few albums from his parents' record collection he was keeping at his Nashville boutique, The Label. He says, "I think I've got a Willie Nelson in there, Hello Walls, and there was a Bobby Darrin, I think, that I just took."

Gary also swung by Nashville record store Grimey's to pick up some classic rock albums from Neil Young and Bob Dylan. Listening to those records in their entirety makes Gary realize what is lost in today's singles-driven, digital music experience.

"People today don't listen to album cuts," Gary explains. "I mean, everybody has their own little playlist, and it's usually singles, and the depth -- I think that's why we're losing so much depth in music in general is because of that."

"Hangover Tonight" is the lead single from Gary's upcoming studio album, due out in the coming months. No word yet on plans for a vinyl release, though.

Reba Says She’ll “Never” Write a Follow-Up to Her Bestselling Autobiography, “Reba: My Story”

Image Courtesy CMAReba has lived a lot of life since her 1994 autobiography, Reba: My Story, became a bestseller, but don't hold your breath for her next memoir. She uses the word "never" when we asked if she would consider writing a book about her experiences conquering Broadway in Annie Get Your Gun, or starring in two network sitcoms. It all goes back to what Reba experienced after her first memoir was published.

"There was stuff on there that I wish I hadn't have said, and I got my facts wrong," Reba says, "and it's so embarrassing when people come up to you and say, 'You know, that didn't happen that way.' I said, 'You know what, go write your own book. Then you can tell it the way you want to.'"

Reba goes on to say she could only write what she knew back in 1994, and she admits, "Oh my gosh, it was hard."

This proclamation doesn't mean you won't see Reba's name in the new releases section at the bookstore again. She adds, "I'd like to write a book, but not a story about me."

Reba prefers to let her music do the talking these days. Her new album, Love Somebody, is due out April 14 featuring the lead single, "Going Out Like That." Look for Reba to perform on the 50th Annual ACM Awards a few days later on Sunday, April 19. The show airs that night at 8 ET on CBS.
